Diary of a Form 3 Kid

I was tidying and clearing junks in my room this afternoon and I stumbled across an old diary which I kept during my school days. It's not really a daily type of dairy but I would write/draw/scribble any rubbish inside. And to use it to cure my boredom when the teacher is teaching in front.

Here is a short recorded moments which I found on some pages. This was in Form 3 when we still had nothing much to worry but PMR.

27th July 2001

Today Shao Jin and Alvin Leong called each other stupid. Then I laughed when Shao Jin asked for his pen. One of my page from my maths book came out. Shao Jin sings like a frog. I look back on what I have written, and smiled. Shao Jin as usual copied my answers as I continued doing my questions. I’m so boring and blurred out… What is this question asking? I decided to call teacher. Mr Loo passed the class. Yes!! I finally did it… My class is so noisy! On my left, there is a bunch of guys talking about…VCD, girls etc. While the guy in front of me, Alex, keep walking around the class, talking and laughing with other friends and draw a picture on the white board. What is even worse, Sinnta is sleeping zzz… 3E is so boring…

SUDDENLY, Wei Hoong show teacher a handphone. Oh my God. That’s stupid, Wei Hoong. Teacher will report it to our class teacher. No, to Pn Ramah. No no, to Mr Loo and he is going to confiscate it. Again, this teacher JUST DON’T CARE, or in other term: ‘SLUMBER’

RING…! The bell has rang and the teacher is gone. The class is becoming noisier and noisier. Here comes Joel, He is asking for my telephone number. When I say ‘603’ he asked what’s that. Alex laughed at him and called him stupid. When I show this dairy to Alex. He laughed and gave me back the book.

Now what? Shao Jin is sleeping. Suddenly he woke up and said ‘Sarimah’. He doesn’t want to do the work which was given to him. Everybody is booking to go to the toilet when a car crash… teacher asked me to throw the rubbish but I ‘mubs’ lar… Everybody is talking crab..what is the answer for this stupid question. ‘Walanyeh’ comes out from Shin Keat mouth. And suddenly I heard about ‘cake’. Joel and Jian Fai talking about ‘cake’. And suddenly change to ‘banana’. Hey guys, you know what are they talking bout larr, right? On my front, there is a guy name Alex which is the ‘8 kong’ in the class. He always walking around and talking here and there to ‘find some business’ to do. But now, miracle, he just sitting there and do his homework. Everyone is so ‘serious’ doing their kefahaman. Take a look at Tuck Chun. Normally he’s always chit-chatting with Man Kiat. And now, both of them are thinking the question. Looks like they are preparing to score 7As in their PMR. Looks like the noise is starting again.. Shin Keat is asking stupid questions.. Alvin is asking me for answers. Alvin Leong…… What a ‘tut…’ ‘girl’.

Pn Jamilah say ‘kalau tidak ada pasang kipas cakap panas, sekarang ada kipas kata sejuk.’ Then Joel ask for PJ but teacher disallow. Shao Jin asking teacher to give answers…he’s bitting the pen and write the answers. Pn Sarah didn’t come. ‘Yes, yes……’ Everyone now is walking around Lup Kee said that ‘Guru ganti’ is Pn Ramah. Everyone is gathering at Perry's place when Joel passed the handphone to Galvin. It started to rain. Tho asks me for his liquid but it was in his bag. What a peaceful day. Jian Fai feel angry because Shao Jin conteng the paper he needed for the interact class. Actually, I also contect some. Kasihan Shao Jin.

13 days left to PMR. Now we are having Geography. Pn Siti is teaching but no one understands. Everybody is drowning and soo blur. Only Kee Guan is still aktif. Ying Khai shoots Tao Payoh and he scores. The bells rings, I wonder who’s coming in next?

A teacher comes in, when the class wants to greet her. She ask to hold on… and scold us!

12 days left. 2 periods of PJ really is tiring… Now we are having a math test and that’s even worse. What’s next?! Oh no! Now we have KH test. The bell rings, it’s time for recess and after that, back to KH for more test. Ah finally the last 2 periods of the day but it is BM and Jamilah comes in. She asks us to use the book we bought by force. Alvin is really killing me. Such simple questions.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Actually I also know how to do the question that Alvin asked me. I just wanna ‘test’ him only. After that , Alex come and look at what I’ve written, he then laugh. Alex brought a bible to school, he show Collins and Sze Ping something in it. And there is something that he don’t want to show them. Still got what? About S2 (Siew Siew) one lorr.. Aiyah.. it’s so boring. Shao Jin suddenly ask me a question and then Wei Loong menyampuk. Celeka punya budak. Shao Jin is so irritating. I think I must split my table from his. What kind of polygon notes is this? Why is the time so slow. One of my notes is missing and Alvin asked me to ask Mr Lai to come for tuition 2-4. Alvin think he is so smart. He still asked questions! Ha! Ha! Ha! I gave this to Alvin to read. He laughed :D

11 days left to the war – PMR. The war that we have to suffer for 4 fays and we took 3 years to plan the strategies. After this war, we’ll be free like a bird. Nelly said, we’ll be like a bird and we’ll only fly away.

Cadet Pilot 1st Stage Assessment

TODAY is my exam day for the AirAsia cadet pilot assessment. I had a few hours of sleep the night before as I only reached home after midnight from Malacca. Managed to crawl out of the bed at 6.45am after several alarm snoozes and after a hot shower I prepared myself before leaving for the academy located at near the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT).

By the time I arrived it was 8.05am. Many candidates were seen waiting outside the gate. I read through some notes for the last time before leaving the car. Out of the 69 person sitting for the exam, there are six females. I also recognized one air steward whom I saw during one of my AA flight, is taking the paper as well. I think he was one of the cabin crews trying their luck to become pilots.

Our first paper, English started at 9am, lasted for an hour before moving on to Physics and Maths. There are 30 minutes break between every paper. During that time, you can see some really semangat people still holding their books, memorizing every single formula into their head. Madness.

The test is not difficult as I thought would be and I’m glad I did not study much. Some questions are pretty straight forward. Though, there are a few who do not have answers. They said it meant to be like that. Catchy one! Among the panels in the hall that I could recalled were Alan, Selva, Najib and Captain Feavin. Not sure of their position though.

However, the last paper, IQ was quite a tough one. Lots of complex calculation and questions involving layers of cracking and understanding. Like Inception. I am only able to answer like, five out of the 20 questions. It was IQ anyway, there is nothing we could study.

Apart from the pool and the mock-up plane where they are used for training, I also saw several simulators of different aircraft inside the academy. Looks kinda cool!

There are two friends which I got to know on that day, Harry and Mei Yin. So there were some chatting to keep us occupied before the papers. Harry took his SPM in 2009 and Mei Yin has just completed her SAM in Taylor’s College. I guess I’m one of the eldest among the candidates. By the way, Mei Yin’s father is a pilot in AirAsia. According to her, it was him who inspired her to become a pilot. Not forgetting her cool cockpit seat belts story.

Well, as told, we will get to know the results after two weeks via email and they will shortlist the number of candidates to 120 (out of 500) for the 2nd stage assessment. So…let’s see.

Faculty Night 2011

Early this year, the student members of the Faculty of Built Environment decided to organize the first Faculty Night ever. Yes, usually we only have the Pre-graduation Night in our course but this is the first time we are doing it among the entire faculty, which consists of the Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Quantity Surve, Science Constructions and Architecture course students.

The theme for the night was Simple and Elegant. To begin with the ceremony, leaders from each different courses are called up the stage to pass over ‘a little something’ to the juniors. Most of them gave shirts which I think it's rather uncreative. Tiong, our representative, handed a big T-Square to our junior Levasko.

The venue for the night was at Pulai Springs, the same place I had my Co-Q's Penampilan Diri test last time. During the registration, all of us were all given a random number along with a gift to be handed over to the person who is holding the same number. Kinda like an ice breaking game.

The partner that I found is a girl who is from the same hometown as Tiong, Sg. Petani. We greeted each other before I passed her the gift. And lucky enough, Sing Ning got back her own number. Therefore she didn't have to go around looking to people.

Throughtout the dinner they were games and some performances from the juniors. Most of them are dancing and singing. *yawn* However, one of our junior did an amazing video introducing the seniors. At least our course is doing something different. Well done, Levasko!

During the dinner we were asked to vote for the Faculty King and Queen but the results was ridicolous. How could the nominees are not from the final year?! I can't even remember who is the King and Queen of the night. Nevermind not important. So when it was about the end, we all sneaked out the hall for some photo sessions. Here are some of the shots:

After the night ended around 10pm but Tiong suggested we hit the club for second round since we were all in the mood and it's not easy we could gather together. All of us coudn't agree more so we headed to Cabana at The Zon.

EARLY of the month I was surfing AirAsia's website and I noticed they are recruiting for cadet pilot position. So without much hesitation I quickly sent an application with an attachment of my CV and SPM results. After that I didn't really put much hope in it as I am still one semester away in completing my degree.

It was until Jan 19th when David (who applied the cadet position too) informed me about receiving an email from AirAsia and so I checked my inbox.

VOILA, I GOT ACCEPTED TOO!!

In the email it is stated that I have to attend a Stage 1 exam which falls on the third day of CNY. The timing of the exam is already a test itself. There will be three papers to be assessed on that day: Maths, Physics and English.

So David and I have to flip back some SPM revision books to refresh our memories. It's been 7 years since we finished our Form 5. How to determine the force when a mass of 2kg falls from above with an acceleration of 5kgms2? And what is the calculation of an inverse matrics?

From what I checked out in the forum, it shows that out of 3000+ application online, 700 were selected for the Stage 1 exam and out of the 700 candidates, only 20 pilots will be chosen in the end. Those selected will be sent to a flying academy in Canada for training earliest by April. Gosh, isn't that a bit too rush?

Nah anyway I'm just going to give it try. Besides, becoming a pilot was one of my dream and who knows, one day, I might be doing architecture in the sky. Haha.

Ticket Finishing (Soon)!

SO I've finally made my booking for the upcoming MACC (Malaysian Association of Chinese Comedian) Chinese New Year show!

Supposedly I was hoping to get 2 tickets for the Jan 29th night show but as the position of the seats were quite limited, therefore I ended up getting the noon show at 3pm. This is the consequence of buying the ticket late.

The comedy show will start today until the 29th, with Kuah Jenhan, Douglas Lim and Phoon Chi Ho as the jokers on stage. This will be my third time catching them perform after the Timeout Thursday show and the JB Art Festival.

The Social Network

I didn't know they were so many stories and conflicts behind the creation of Facebook until I watched 'The Social Network' last night. How it started from a Harvard University student network to a worldwide social network with 500 million active users today. In the show they probably speak a lot of computer language which I do not understand a single thing but nonetheless it is a great movie! Not to mention that Mark Zurkerberg (portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg) is a genius.

After watching the movie I sorta googled and read some of the information about the Facebook company and its co-founders. Hey, guess what? One of its office is in Selangor, Malaysia!!

So are you obsessed with Facebook?

The Southern Intergrated Terminal

LAST week I grabbed the opportunity to take the express bus back to Johor from the newly opened bus terminal at Bandar Tasik Selatan, named Southern Intergrated Terminal or Terminal Bersepadu Selatan It was not fully occupied as most of the bus companies were still 'hanging around' at the Bukit Jalil temporary terminal.

This new terminal consists of 5 level and the main lobby area is located on the third. From the papers, it is said that this building will be officially opened coming Feb 1st, together with the newly revamped bus terminal in Puduraya. This explain the emptiness of the terminal when I visited there.

As a transportation building, one of the most important element is the connectivity with other train and LRT lines. This terminal is connected to the KTM, LRT (Sri Petaling line) and ERL (KLIA Transit) via a pedestrian bridge. However a not very satisfying part is the lack of facilities to the disabled people on the LRT station.

Traveling by road, there are two ways to get to the terminal: from the Sg. Besi BESRAYA highway and the MRR2. By judging at the current traffic condition on the MRR2 (Bandar Tasik Selatan area), I believe it will get worse in the future when the terminal goes full operation.

The internal road around the terminal is planned almost as the way it is as KL Sentral. A one way ring road circulation to the designated drop off, pick up and parking area. There are signboards for directions.

This is entering from the BESRAYA highway. Funny, vehicles coming from the Ampang side of MRR2 actually have to make a very long and inconvenient u-turn to get to this entrance. There is not direct ingress via the MRR2 from that direction.

Approaching the terminal we can see the high volume space of bus arrivals platforms. Looks okay to me. Bigger space means more comfortable.

The platforms are located at level 2 and there are six of them for the passengers to disembark which then they could ascend to the arrival hall one level above.

On the 1st level of the terminal is the area for parking and buses to city centre. It somehow reminds me of the ground level of KL Sentral.

One of the thing that I found impressive is the ticketing system. All the tickets are issued under one management, the TBS. I actually need to provide my IC and contact number when purchasing the ticket. And there are touch screens for you to pick the choice of the bus company, departure time and seat in the bus.

Christmas and Turkey

MERRY Christmas people! It's a day of celebration and the traffic in KL is horrible. I've learned my lesson: NEVER shop for Christmas gift at the very last minute. The Christmas decorations of the malls in the Klang Valley are nice though. I grabbed some chances to visit some of them:

On the night of Christmas Eve, one of the schoolmate, Shao Jin (Jim) invited us for a party at his house. It will be a gathering cum BBQ session on that night.

I went there after sending Ning and her family to the airport. It was raining very heavily that day and I was again was caught in the jam. I've never been to Jim's new house located at Zen Cheras. The place practically has zero noise and air pollution. Simply peaceful and out of the city.

Most of the guests are his friends from college, his friends' friends and friends' friends' friends. Some of his relatives were there as well. It was still quite early when I arrived and more and more people came in as the sky turned darker. I chatted a while with Jim's dad and he said it is important that we (school mates) should gather more often. These are the REAL friends we have.

On the night, most of the guests brought food such as liquor and chocolates. I brought myself with an empty stomach.

The games and drinking session started once we were getting full with the food. However I didn't join because we had another plan in mind. And that's where the Christmas celebration began.

It's been long time I never went to club with them. The cover charge was RM68 for guy and RM58 for girl with one drink. So we opened a bottle and shared. Nick brought some of his friends. And we meet Jackson (Chin Hwa) there as well. It was fun and crowded.

Retouching Old Photos

SOMETIMES when you flipped through old photo albums of your parents or even grandparents you'll see some photos which look like this:

Sepia or black and white

Last night one of my cousin sister sent me a photo of her paternal grandfather, who passed away very early when he was still a young man. Only having this monochrome photo of him, she wants me to add some 'colours' to it. I thought it was quite impossible to do it as we normally photoshop our pictures from colour to black and white (B&W) but not vice versa.

That was, until I found a handy shareware which enable us to do that. This program called Recolored has very simple tools for us to add colours to old B&W photos. Fascinating!

Lately I've been hearing a lot of death news. It all started with Alviss Kong, a heartbreak guy who committed suicide after his girlfriend left him. Followerd by another girl who jumped from KL Pavilion. Not long later, Sheng Yuan uncle also passed away after a road accident, which shocked all of us uni mates. And last night I heard from dad that one of our relative is not have much time left as well. *update: this morning the ambulance came and sent her to the hospital. Well, she's 98 now. This is life.

KL Motor Show 2010

THE Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) has finally come to an end after 10 days of exhibition at the Putra World Trade Center. It's been a long time I never been to PWTC, since the last PC Fair held here.

On last Tuesday I went to the motor show with Karen and David who was still in KL. It was a public holiday therefore we had to pay for the usual adult ticket (RM20) instead of the student price (RM5). But we got ourselves a chance of lucky draw contest.

Previously I've been to the motor show in Singapore but not the one in KL. So let the photos speak for themselves:

A Leisure Cruise Experience

IT was after our thesis submission

And off we went for a date. It's been a while we both never gone out together. So we'd decided to spend this quality time together before leaving UTM.

About a few months ago, I bought this voucher in a travel fair in JB.

It was a cruise voucher for two, for only RM50. Well, since I like cruise so much I thought why not give it a try.

Earlier, we arranged with the guy to pick us up at The Zon but the crawl on road heading to town delayed our schedule. Thank to the early morning jam at Jalan Skudai, we ended up driving to the jetty at Pasir Gudang ourselves. It was my first time to Pasir Gudang. Lots of factories and trees surprisingly.

The cruise jetty was not easy to locate. I had to ask a local (and he pointed me directions to Mars) before I called the agent who sold us the voucher. It is hidden in some ulu place, among the factories, unlike Harbour Front in Singapore. Something must be done to attract tourists here.

There are not many tourist here. Most people in the jetty terminal are either (i) Immigration staff, (ii) gamblers or (ii) Indonesians going back home. There are ferry services to Batam though. And yup, we're boarding a gambling cruise, for the first time.

These are our tickets, in exchange with the vouchers and with proof of our ICs. So there we go, prepared to board the Leisure World cruise at 10am!

This is the small ferry which transported us to the cruise on high sea. The journey took us about one hour. We slept throughout cuz were too tired (rushing for submission few days back).

About one hour later, VIOLA!! I excited when *still excited* I see *still still excited* this from the window!

The moment we stepped on board the cruise we showed the tickets and passed our ICs at the embarkation counter. HA, this way we couldn't jump off the ship and say bye-bye just like that.

The first thing we did after boarding the cruise was to EAT. Buffet is served in the restaurant throughout the entire day. There were fruits, dessert, porridge, coffee and tea etc. But you have to pay for fresh fruit drinks. And if you noticed there are slots machines at the back.

For lunch, Ning and I took the Nasi Lemak cuz it looked tempting.Woo~ Then we had some fruits bcuz we want to be healthy (after days of staying up late).

After the meal, we started to explore the ship. Haha I couldn't wait. There isn't even a deck plan at every floor so what we did was just walked up and down and explored around as we could. Hoping to came across the steam room like the Titanic but well it didn't happen.

We came to the bow of the ship. Actually we didn't go to the bow, we just saw the bow from far. Sien. There was no chance we could go near there maybe they think people will do the 'I'm the king of the world' pose and slip down and die.

Looking up to the bridge of the ship. There is where the captain and crew are navigating the ship. Actually no need to navigate also cuz the ship remained the same position on sea and didn't move an inch.

I love walking along this deck. This is Boat Deck at Level 7. And you might be wondering how come they are not many people walking around. HARRO! This is a gambling cruise, therefore most of the people are inside the ship, GAMBLING!

Hi from me!

Look, there is even a gym room for those on board. To Edison Chiew, you want to eat buffet, and at the same time go for unlimited hours of gym? This cruise ngam (suits) you very much leh! =)

Basically it didn't take much time to explore whole of the ship as it is not very bigg. So Ning and I ended up in the casino. Nyek nyek. Afterall it's a gambling cruise. And I think we are the youngest (and the most noob) in there.

Incident #1:

I saw many people queue up a line in front of a counter when first entered the ship so I queued along. Then I wondered what was it for so I asked the guy behind me and he said was for 'unloading'. Getting confused, I had no idea what he meant by that. 'Unloading?' I only understand unloading as (i) removing cargo and (ii) making business in toilet. So I showed him our tickets and he said we don't have to queue for cuz we were having the free ticket. Well, I guess they were exchanging some casino credits and chips with the ticket.

They are a few casinos located on different deck and most of them are smoking area. We didn't play any table games well because I'm not really into it and I don't have much capital for that. In case you didn't know, every transaction in Leisure Cruise are in Singapore Dollars. YES, SGD!! Immediately and automatically, x2.37 rate.

We did try some luck on several slot machine. And...that was the fastest ever SDG20 spent. Every few seconds the balance in the card decreased as we pressed the '1 bet', '10 bet', '5 lines', '20 lines', 'Red', 'Black' buttons. No luck man. I don't understand why those uncles and aunties so enjoyed the machines eating their money.

After warned by Ning not to continue the cheating game, we went on walking around the ship and snapped photos. This very much reminded me of my 4th year high-rise studio, where I did a cruise hotel for my project. The one on the left pic (located at 7th floor) looks classier compared to the right (5th floor), probably due to different class of the cabin.

Sometimes when the housekeeping are tidying up the room, we could see the cabin inside and it looked pretty nice and cozy. They are also rooms for the staff on ship. There was once we saw a room full of garments in the closet. I thought must be some performers room ~~cuz I saw many underwears~~.

Of course, other than the food and walk-around of the cruise, the other thing that I anticipated was the show! At 2.30pm there will be performance in Paradise Lounge on the Rainbow Deck (Level 6). Before the show there was a demonstration on how to put on the life jacket, just like when you board the plane.

I actually put quite a hope for the show, thinking it would be like a magic show or at least some cabaret dancing.

To my disappointment..

What we had was like a Super-7 style oldies singing session (Super 7 is an open hawker area in Taman U). Ok lah, not that bad. The performers did very hard to impress and make us entertained throughout the 90 minutes show. They sang Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese and English song. I remember one of the name is Sam cuz Ning said he looks like another version of Jackie Chan. And he could sang quite well too. There were also two Filipinos singing songs like 'Top of the World' and 'Yue liang dai biao wo de xin' (月亮代表我的心)

As per recommended by the waitress, I ordered a cocktail drink called Snowball (X'mas is near) as they are having a buy 1 free 1 promotion, SGD6 for two. Brought out the peanuts I bought earlier in Tebrau Jusco. During some part of the show Ning and I dozed off on the comfortable sofa.

Right after the show, we quickly left the freezing lounge to catch some warm air. You can see there are vapour on my camera lens. That's how cold the inside was. Ah, once again we looked a far and what we could see was..

This is the boat we took earlier. They were bringing more passengers to the ship and to depart back those who had just checked out the rooms.

Going up to the highest deck of the ship on the 8th floor, the Sun Deck. There are sauna, Thai massage, basketball court, table tennis, and erm, washroom. I went to the massage room and asked if they have any foot massage. The girl told me it was located at the Caribbean deck at Level 3. In the end I didn't go for it.

That's the bar but it is closed during daytime. Perhaps if we stay overnight then we would experience the liveliness of the cruise at night. There are some couches for people to rest by the way.

I noticed this part of the ship has wooden deck and there is a signage hanging there saying 'CREW ONLY'. How come only they have the wooden deck? I also want timber finished for my deck. It looks a lot more nicer isn't it?

As we were only able to leave the ship at 7.15pm, there was still plenty of time but we didn't know what else to do. No more gamble, no more show, no room to rest. Except for eating! Luckily Ning brought along her cute little wishlist dairy and she started sticking magazines photos in it, while I take a short nap on the couch. ZZzz...

Oh I forgot to mention that there is also a small arcade on board. We played the Metal Slug Game and the poker game. Besides, there are also two computer we could pay for internet surfing. Not very fast connection and they limit to slow/medium bandwidth only. Youtube is not arrowed. Aiy..no Peter Chao videos to watch.

It was dinner time again, Ning and I rushed ourselves to the restaurant hoping to find some nice food, which we did. The smell of the dish, sound of the dining utensils, view of the evening sky. All that made up to a good dining atmosphere. I must say that was the best part of the whole trip. And, the mee rebus was good!

Newspapers to read. There is also TV program on the other side. The one here is not working (or turned off). After dinner and some chatting, we went down to collect our ICs and ready to head back to Pasir Gudang.

Thesis Stage 1

THIS shall be the first post of this semester. I've abandoned my blog for quite some time already. Only come here to read some updated blogs. As you can also see I've changed the layout to, ya know, make it 'fresh' a bit. I've seen sites where you can drag the photos and share it right away in Facebook, Twitter etc. (see smashpop and hongkiat.com) Kinda cool but I have no idea how to configure that. In the end I only managed put the meebo bar at the bottom of my site.

Currently rushing for the studio submission due next Monday. I have nothing much to say about my thesis at the moment. But here is what I'm working on for this sem, and the next sem as well:

And also...Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 is finally out. I'm gonna catch that right after my submission.

Fullhouse Cafe and T-Bowl Restaurant

DURING the two weeks in KL before my intern starts, I've visited two interested eating place in town, Fullhouse and the T-Bowl Resaurant.

1) Fullhouse Cafe @ nearby KLCC

I was told by my sis that this lifestyle store+cafe located at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng is not far from the KLCC area and she kept asking me to bring her there the moment I came back from UTM. So I asked Lim and Jim to tag along since they are staying nearby my house. At the same time I can show Jim around KL at night.

It was a Thursday night so there wasn't a lot of people there. I could easily found a parking spot at the roadside thus no need to pay for any parking fee. You know how expensive the parking can be in KL.

2) The second interesting place which I went is the T-Bowl Restaurant in Sg Wang Plaza. This time I met up with my pilot friend Khong Jin a.k.a Abo for a lunch there. I also got to know this place tru my sis. It is a toilet themed restaurant!

As far as I've heard of, there are these kind of restaurants in Taiwan and Hong Kong but not Malaysia. I would very much love it if there is a chance to visit this theme restaurant. Finally it is now in town, and there is another outlet located in Queensbay Mall, Penang.

Basically the moment you enter the restaurant, most of the things you see are stuff you'll see in the toilet. Toiletbowl, sink, bath tub, shower head, ~~naked lady~~ etc.

There menu comes with set lunch as well. Khong Jin and I ordered a set for each. It comes with a main course, soup, drinks and dessert. RM16.90 per set.

Last Stop of Doulos

*Note: this is a backdated post* I wrote this few months back but only managed to post this recently

During last December, my dear and I went to Singapore to attend my cousin's wedding. It was the first ever wedding in the family. After the wedding on the following day, we went to Vivocity and coincidently Doulos Ship was there. Well, I didn't know much about Doulos until I googled about it.

Christmas was around the corner

Doulos was the world's oldest passenger ship built in 1914. (two years after the Titanic sank) Serving in four different roles ie.cruise liner, migrant carrier, cargo ship and even a floating book fair. This ship has visited over 100 countries and welcomed more than 20 million visitors on board. *Oh I See!*

And Doulos has been rebuilt twice

Apparently Singapore was the last stop for Doulos after its many years of service. Therefore we got the chance to visit this historical ship before it was handed over to the new owner.

Vivocity is located next to Harbour Front Cruise Terminal and there was a SuperStar Vigro stopping on that day. I've been to a cruise once (Star Aquarius) when I was young and since then I loved it! That explains why I love the movie Titanic so much.

Also, opposite VivoCity is the Sentosa island, where the Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios Singapore were being constructed at that time. Another must go place in Singapore!

The entrance to Doulos was free but if you were to join the tour round the ship (ie. engine room, kitchen etc) there are charges for it. Ning and I didn't took the tour due to time constraint.

The book fair is the place where most of the people come to. It has all kinds of books from story books to discoveries. Novels to animals books. Ning bought herself a book about CATS. Yeah, she loves animals, while I got a DIY Doulos ship model. Haha. I love this kind of stuff.

End of Semester

IT looks like I only blog once every semester. Yes, the sem has finally come to the end! I've just submitted my studio work and the topical study report which took me two semester to complete.

Hard cover bound report. Satisfaction! =)

Basically for this topical study report we had to study and to do a research on a topic we picked related to our course. Well for me, this is the topic that I chose:

It is something like a thesis report. As for this I'm already suffer enough cuz I don't like to write reports. How la I'm gonna survive my thesis year next sem.

One copy for the lecturer and the other for my supervisor, Dr Zin

Nevertheless, I'm glad its all over!

Then we have our studio work. This semester we are in the urban unit therefore it covers a larger scale and context compare to the previous ones. My given site is in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands (where we visited there early of the semester to do our site analysis) and for the final project I'm doing a market place at the particular site.

1. Jenny, Ning and I went to Monsta Cafe @ Nusa Bestari. It's like another version of Fullhouse Cafe in KL which I have yet to visit.

There weren't many people on that night, I guess because it was a weekend. But me like the artificial grass! =)

2) After much delay, we finally got the chance to watch Alice in Wonderland. However Choon Wah couldn't join cuz he was too tired finishing his Jurassic Park model.

3) Also, we went for fish spa for the first time @ Sutera Mall. Only RM6 for 20 minutes. Kinda cheap compared to Kenko in Pavilion.

4) There was a junk sale going on in JB and Tiong asked us to joined him there. It was my first time to such place and I must say it was a great experience. Everything is sooo Tiong~ Haha.

From a dead street during daytime to a lively spot at night. And they even have DJ playing music on the street. How cool is that!

The things sold there are not entirely used items. Ning bought a new skirt for only RM25. I got myself a Mickey Mouse T-shirt. Who knows I can wear it if I have the chance to visit Disneyland one day. Hehe.

5) PACKING, the most siennz thing to do after every two semester. We were to keep and moved our stuff to the store room cuz we MIGHT not be using the same room when the new sem starts. All together I have nine boxes of stuff to pack and that's not all. There are others books and unused items I gotta bring back home.

Going house visit in hometown

Anyway, lately I've been lazy to blog. But I'm still catching up with others' blog. Most of the updates, photos are being posted up in facebook already. This explain the lack of my updated post.

Just wanna share with you guys that one of my resolution for this year is to have a healthy lifestyle. Ehem.. Architecture students are having inconsistancy sleeping hour and meal time sometimes. We do not have the chance to sleep even during the submission week.

So after one semester of delaying our 'healthy' plan, Jenny, Joseph, Choon Wan, Ning and I have finally decided to sign up for a gym trial package in Danga City Mall. Clark Hatch was having its road show few weeks ago and it is only RM50 for a month, for an UNLIMITED access!!!

So why not?

What's more, there are even schedule like funrobics, yoga, pilate, hip-hop classes which we can join anytime we want. Therefore we were thinking to start our gym right after the Chinese New Year break.

Hopefully with this, I don't have any reasons for being lazy to exercise =p

End of Semester Break

The holiday seems to end so fast. Out of the four weeks break, two weeks was spent on the Borneo trip, one week helping dad in office, and another week staying at home rotting. That is how I spent my holiday basically. It's time for a new semester and new subjects and new studio and new lecturer but old UTM wtf.

The Day My Canon Gone Cracked

A month ago, before my Borneo trip dad received a call from his friend saying that he has a free room in Genting Highlands for one night. He asked if I wana go up with Ning since she was with me at that time. So why not I thought.

My sister couldn't go cuz she had to work in the pharmacy therefore I called my high school mate Khong Jin to join. Coincidentally his girlfriend was with him so she tagged along as well. A double date trip to Genting. Yay! =)

On Tuesday morning KJ and Shin Yin (his gf) picked us up and we went breakfast nearby his parents' office at KLCC cuz he wanted to get something from his mum. After that, off we went to Pahang - Genting!

Ning and I actually went to Genting two months back but we didn't had the chance to go into the theme park and spend the night there.

After an hour drive from KL, we'd finally reached Genting. Since it was still early we parked the car at the First World Hotel and went straight to get the theme park ticket. Khong Jin had two buy 1 free 1 coupons which means all of us were paying only half of the price. =)

It was a school holiday at that time so there were quite a lot of people, students especially. Before entering the theme park, we first tried the flying coaster ride located outside. And I can say that my day didn't start off very well.

I will always remember this ride

While we were riding the flying coaster, my camera slipped off my pocket and after I'd realised it was already too late. I asked the technician to picked it up for me after the ride.

Before that, the ticket guy warned us to keep our stuff in the locker and even spectacles are not advisable to be worn on the ride. I still thought that the camera would be fine in my pocket as long as I hold tight to it. So, gone la just like that. Sien..

Moreover that was just the first ride of the day. How la I'm gonna take photos for the rest of the day and the following day.

I tried to turn on the camera and still worked however. It's just that the LCD was cracked and there was no display on the screen. Therefore I could only take photos by imagining the picture on the screen.

We still had to move on with our rides despite the camera incident. We played the antique car ride, go-kart, cyclone, the super toboggan and the boat ride. Since my camera is not working so well I didn't make much photos that day. Most of the photos are taken with Shin Yin's camera phone.

Unfortunately the spinner was closed for some maintenance work on that day. We kept the most exciting ride at the end of the day - The space shot! It was Ning's first time riding it cuz she said nobody wanted to accompany her last time when she wanted to try that.

She was so excited and happy that she to ride it more than once. Haha. As usual, the space shot always give me the 'suspense' feeling when we are being lifted up. And without any alert or signal we were suddenly dropped down like falling off the building. Scary but enjoy! =)

I met up with my dad's friend at the First World Hotel and he gave me the room card for us to check-in. There was also a complimentary breakfast/dinner voucher for two so Ning and I used it for our dinner.

The room on the 23rd floor we got was actually at the very end of the hotel therefore we got a view of the theme park from side window.

So after the checking-in, shower, dinner and the indoor rides/arcade, we went to the Starworld casino (my favourite part of the whole trip). Hehehe. It was also my first time gambled in the casino. We only played the French roulette and the Big Small game cuz those are among the easiest on the play (and win).

KJ also taught me how to play the slot machine and it turned out very easy and addicted as well =p

No wonder all these while I saw so many aunties sitting in front of the machines waiting for time to pass. Different machines have different kind of score and amount charged but all are the same way of playing. I personally like the Lady Luck machine cuz it gave us luck. *ding ding*

But there is a limit to it. There was once where Ning and I played till we won RM40 then we quickly left the game. It we kept on going, sooner or later we might gonna lose all the money.

Also, if we are feeling thirsty there are free flow of drinks in the casino cafe for us. There are smoking as well as non-smoking area in the casino and we spent most the time at the non-smoking one. The air is much more fresher at that side.

The following day after checking-out the hotel, we spent another 3 hours in the casino before heading down KL. (Who knows maybe I could win back my camera money) Hee..

IN less than two weeks' time, I'll be going to watch Michael Jackson's This Is It!

This is it. Ini pun dia.

It is a concert film starring MJ and some scenes of the concert's rehearsal before his sudden death in June. The show is scheduled to released on 28th October 2009 and a day later in Malaysia. It will be only in cinema for two weeks and therefore to avoid any disappointment I've asked Jean to help me get the ticket at the Cathay Cineplex after my birthday dinner last night.

Just a moment ago Ning surprised me with the tickets that Jean has successfully gotten. Many thanks to her. I am so excited now!!

Architectural Houses and Korean Dinner

DURING the Raya break I was back at KL with Ning. One day we've decided to tour around some area where I seldom been, some area that has beautiful houses. Ya know, those houses that goes BOOM and shout 'ME'!

Talking about nice houses, I will usually think of Damansara Height, Bukit Damansara or the Bangsar area. These areas have a higher number of bungalows and nice mansions. I suppose many Datuks or angmohs are staying around there.

So off we go!!!

I came from the road Jalan Istana towards Jalan Damansara, passing by the Istana Negara, National Museum and Galleria Sri Perdana (residence of Tun Mahathir from year 1983-1999). There you'll find interesting houses and surprisingly the area is kinda secluded and there are many trees along that hilly area.

Coming out from Damansara Heights to the Pusat Bandar Damansara (PBD), we then continued to Bukit Damansara at the other side of PBD. It is another hilly area where they are many houses built along the steep, contour area.

There is one particular highlight for our jalan-jalan cari rumah - the YTL Residence. Previously I was searching for this HUGE mansion owned and resided by the three generation of Tan Sri Dato' Seri Yeoh Tiong Lay and luckily I found it. This time I wanted to brought Ning to see the house.

I didn't take much of its photo fearing that the guard will come and stop us. The only photos of the inside I could get is from the internet. Amazing house you can find in Malaysia huh. It is just unbelievable!

Later on, we headed to Mont Kiara since we were nearby the area. I saw an APT hair saloon and decided to had my haircut there. RM25 for cut and wash by junior stylist. And I pretty much like it!

After the haircut, I brought Ning to Plaza Mont Kiara for a Korean meal. That was actual the plan for bringing her out for a dinner. However to my dissapointment the restaurant where I planned to bring her was under renovation (or closed down I don't know) so we changed to another location in Desa Sri Hartamas.

There was only us and another table of people in the restaurant. My guess it because it was a weekday, hence the less customer. Anyway, we ordered one set of beef and another set of pork as recommended by the waiter. So here goes:

Uncle Lim's Wonderland

DURING the Raya break, my family and I together with Ning decided to go to Genting Highlands since it' has been a long time we went up there. Also Jenny and Joseph will be checking-in on that day. We could meet up for a while up there.

We departed at eight in the morning.

On the way up, we stopped by at Gohtong Jaya to visit Lim Goh Tong's memorial. Uncle Lim was the founder of Genting by the way. His passing two years ago was a great lost to many.

Dad asked if we wanted to take the cable car ride up but we didn't so we went straight up to the peak by car. On the halfway we stopped at the Chin Swee Temple for a walk and some photo shooting.

The moment we got down the car, I could feel the cool wind blowing towards us eventhough the sun was shinning at us.

I brought Ning into the Starworld casino at the First World Hotel. We didn't play cuz we didn't know how to and more importantly we don't have 'the enough cash'. Haha. Inside there, I saw people throwing out cash RM5000 just like that and a while later, there are gone just like that. *snap finger*

Feeling Jitty Again

AHHH… It’s been weeks (or months?) since the death of MJ and looks like my blog is dead as well. Hah, don’t worry it hasn’t. I have been keeping myself busy with….erm, FACEBOOK, in particularly the Happy Farm and Restaurant City. I have been working non-stop as a farmer as well as a restaurant manager cum waiter cum cleaner. Life is hard, isn’t it.

Anyway, today I am feeling 'jitty' so I’ve decided to write something here. Let me just post up some photos taken during the last weekend. I went back to KL cuz the National Day was on Monday. In fact, I went back home last Wednesday after the Japanese class so that I will have a longer holiday. Yup, I am taking Japanese language again and by the end of this year I will sit for the Japanese Proficiency Test Level 4 (JLPT4) together with Ning. わたしのこいびと　＾＾

Last Wednesday, Choon Wah, Ning and I headed to KL at around 7pm by Ning’s car. My car has been sent for service following a minor accident in the campus car park two weeks ago. The front part of the car was slightly crushed.

On Thursday, I brought Ning to the aquarium shop opposite my house and she was delighted to see so many fishes especially the guppy. There were many female guppy with nice red colour tail. Sadly we couldn’t manage to buy some back as the shop hasn’t open on the day we wanted to return to UTM.

At night, we went to Low Yat Plaza cuz I have wanted to get an external hard disk for since a long time ago. I got the 320GB Western Digital with a 2.5” Cooler Master casing. Then I swapped the hard disk with the 120GB one in my laptop.

After that we went for some doughnuts at the Times Square's Krismy Kreme. We stayed there for a while and I ~~played Happy Fedarm~~ surf the internet with my laptop as there is free WIFI.

On Friday, Ning and I met up with Choon Wah at KLCC before going to the Bookfest at the convention centre. This is also the reason why we wanted to go back to KL at first – to visit the largest annual bookfair in Malaysia. In KL, I could see many people wearing masks fearing that the Ahini virus might spread.

I bought a book by Steven Hawking 'The Universe in a Nutshell' It talks about general relativity and quantum theory which I've always been interested since I was young. Also I got myself a chinese version of D.K. Ching reference book. Ning bought an animal encyclopedia and a comic. Choon Wah bought a VRay rendering tutorial as well as an architectural handbook. We had pizza for lunch. Only then I realised the menu of Pizza Hut in KLCC is different from the other outlets.

On Saturday, Ning wanted to meet up with her hometown friends studying in IMU and UKM - Bibi and Ing Ing. And MidValley was the meeting spot. I was quite impressed with the Raya decoration in the mall. Everything was so Lat/comic/paper-like. *thumbs up* =)

For dinner, Bibi zai insisted going to Chili's Grill & Bar and there was a lot of people queuing up the line outside the restaurant. I put down my name and the guy told us to come back in another 1 hour. Good food always come after a long wait. Here are what we ordered that night:

After a satisfying meal, Ning and I said goodbye to her friends and we went to Wisma MCA for a charity concert organised the Buddhist Society. Earlier, Tiong invited us there as he will be singing on that night.

IT'S still unbelievable when I think of Michael Jackson's passing away. Months ago we still could heard of him fighting with his court case and people trying to sue him blablabla. Now look at him, all gone and people are starting to miss and remember him.

How many animals are there?

I still remember the first time when I saw him on TV, I thought he was a woman! At such a young age, I supposed people with long hair are girls.

Well, after some googles I've just learnt that it is because of his skin disorder disease that destroy the skin pigmentation. It was something that can't be helped. Also, Michael Jackson slept in oxygen chamber to what he believed that it will keep his life span longer. Hmm, that is interesting.

Last Day of Internship in KCYS

WHILE I was packing and tidying up my stuff in the office, boss KC came to me and asked if I can read Chinese. I told him yea and he took out a Chinese book and passed it to me. Boss said it was a little something for me.

I looked at the title and it says 创意是训练出来的 (creativity through training). I flipped through some pages and found out that the vocabs are not too difficult for me to read and understand. I guess I will spend some time reading the book. Afterall, the boss is too nice already. Well who knows, I might find something interesting inside.

Now that I have finished my practical training and don't have to worry getting up early in the morning, what is the next plan??

A Gift From KCYS

FINALLY after undergoing eight weeks of my practical training in KCYS Architects, today is my last day of work. Weee~~ I do learn a lot things my colleagues and bosses and most importantly they are good to me.

Initially I was thinking of working in a big architecture firm cz I thought it should be nice to have many people working together but now I find that working in a small (or medium) firm can be quite exciting and fun as well. I think what attracted me when I first came for interview was the cosy environment of the office.

Anyway, time flies. Yesterday my boss KC handed me a little souvenior after I asked him to sign some documents for me. I was surprised!

Penang Escape 1

TWO weeks ago, my family and I went for a trip. It was quite a last minute plan and since I am back home for my internship, mum suggested that we go for a trip together. And Penang was the choice of destination. It's been a long time we've never hang out together as a family.

Since there are many photos, I shall just post them up into two posts and let the pictures tell the story. =)

First Time On Air, and Win A Little Something

YESTERDAY I was on my way back home after work and listening to Red.fm. Ever since I started my internship two weeks ago I always tune in to 104.9 whenever I’m in the car heading and back from work There are all sorts of attractive prizes which you can win if you take part in the game or activities they have.

So what happened last evening was, while DJ Jeremy was on the air he mentioned that he would be giving away movie passes to lucky winners. What we just needed to do was to send a text message to the radio station.

I was driving and messaging Ning at the same time, thinking how easy it could possibly be to win stuff just like that. Why not give it a try? Therefore I typed in whatever the DJ said and sent it to the station. Never thought of anything more after that.

It was until moments later I received a phone call. The number looked quite familiar (cuz it was the number I call almost every morning trying my luck to win some cash). "Hey isn’t that the number from Red.fm?" I thought for awhile.

Yes indeed, it was Jeremy the Red.fm DJ!! RED.FM ACTUALLY CALLED ME!!! And I answered it right away.

I received the call while they were still playing some songs at the station. Jeremy DJ asked me to turn down the radio volume. It also means the whole conversation actually wasn't live but pre-recorded few couple minutes before. I was stunned and excited I didn't know what to react as I was chosen as the lucky winner to win FOUR movie tickets of Night At The Museum 2.

Gosh I totally couldn't believe it! This is my first time talking to a radio staion DJ on air. Moreover I am winning something from it. How cool is that!

As far as I can recall, this is how the conversation went like:

DJ: Hello Jit Ming, right? This is Jeremy calling from the Red.fm
Me: Erm..yea, hi! * getting excited*
DJ: Congratulations to you Jit Ming! You have won yourself some movie passes!
Me: *excited* Oh my god! Really? Is it? Err...err.. (too happy dunno what else to say). Thank you thank you thank you.
DJ: Now tell me, Jit Ming. Tell me how do you want this movie ticket so much?
Me: *still excited* I want it very veryy much!
DJ: Tell me again, HOW DO YOU LIKE TO WIN THIS PASSES THE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2??
Me: I LIKE TO WIN IT VERY VERRY VERRRYYY MUCH!!
DJ: Congratulations again, you have just picked up four tickets all thanks to the 20th Century Fox.
Me: Oh four?
DJ: Yea, you can get four.
Me: Oh okay. Thanks, thanks. Thanks a lot. Thank you Red.fm!
DJ: How many do you think I am giving away?
Me: Normally I thought is, err...two or….hehe. But, err..I am so surprise.
DJ: Hey, that’s my job to surprise you. So, congratulations!

The DJ questioned me some stuff and asked if I ever won anything from Red.fm before. He even asked me who am I going to ask to watch the movie together. Then he took down my details to send me the tickets I supposed.

THANK YOU RED.FM! I am thinking of going for the movie with my family members. We had never before watched a movie in the cinema together. I’m sure it will be nice.

Went to Kinrara's Giant two weeks ago to shake hand with the DJ in order to win RM10,000!!!

If you are wondering why am I calling to Red.fm every morning. I was actually kinda attracted to the game they have on that time. Plus the cash reward is really really tempting! Go listen it for yourself... =)

A Meal at The Gardens

LAST Friday was Choon Wah's 23rd birthday. It was Ning who actually reminded my of that a few days before or else I could have forgotten about it. Oopss =p

Since it was my room mate's big day and everybody has just started their internship not long ago, I was actually thinking of meeting up with the rest of my course mates who are currently working in KL.

I called up Ala, Wei Chin, Jean and Wai Loon and we went yamcha together at SS2 Murni. My friend Nicholas joined along too. Jean has all the pictures and story here. =)

But before that, Choon Wah and I went to The Gardens earlier for a dinner. We randomly chose a restaurant where we saw many people were dining there. And the price was not too expensive for us.

It is a Taiwanese restaurant called 'Din Tai Fung' located at the lower ground floor. From the time we entered the place until finished our meal and paid for the bill, the waitresses and waiters greeted and thanked us with their most pleasant smile. This is one well-mannered service I should say.

One of the famous dish is their 小笼包 (xiao long bao) or the soup dumplings. I like the soup inside and minced meat taste nice as well. A must try!

For our main course, I ordered a 炸酱面 (zha jiang mian) and Choon Wah tried the pork chop rice. Then we shared a yam dessert.

I am not good in writing a food review. For me, it is either 'gooood', 'yucks', or 'ok lar'. In this case since ~~it has nice waitress~~ I was hungry, everything tasted delicious. =p But if you are looking for oriental ~~chicks~~ delicacies, why not give it a try at Din Tai Fung. Remember to try their xiao long bao!

My First Nuffnang Cheque

I first registered with Nuffnang, the blog advertising company in December 2007. At that time, I just wanted to try this new 'stuff' my friend, Yee Mei recommended. (and also to see whether these kinds of thing are real or not? =p) Wouldn't it be good to have a side income?
