KL New Skyline

IF you noticed lately, there has been some construction going around the KLCC area. The near completion Carigali Tower (find and dig?) is one of the building that topped the usual skyline of KL, making it the 3rd tallest building in Malaysia after the Petronas Twin Tower and the Telekom Tower

Located at Lot C of KLCC masterplan, this building consists of office space and also an extension to the existing Suria KLCC mall at the podium level.
 MENARA CARIGALI (PETRONAS TOWER 3) | Kuala Lumpur ( KLCC ) | 59F | 267m | U/C

There is also a Four Seasons Hotel to be built at the vacant lot between Maxis Tower and the old-looking Wisma Central, where the existing car park has been shut down for quite a while now. Once completed it will be the tallest Four Seasons Hotel in the world.
The initially planned two towers has been revised to a single tower (below)

The latest addition to the skyline will be the Landmark Tower designed by Buro Ole Scheeren, who designed the China's CCTV building in Beijing. As simple as it looks, the building compromises of a few different blocks stack on top of one another.

I admire simplicity of the design which stands out among the buildings in context. This 65 storey building will accommodate hotel rooms, serviced apartments and retails. The sky pool will probably be the main feature of it and also a perfect spot for fireworks viewing during event celebrations.
Set for completion at 2016

Can't wait! =)

Thesis Stage 1

THIS shall be the first post of this semester. I've abandoned my blog for quite some time already. Only come here to read some updated blogs. As you can also see I've changed the layout to, ya know, make it 'fresh' a bit. I've seen sites where you can drag the photos and share it right away in Facebook, Twitter etc. (see smashpop and hongkiat.com) Kinda cool but I have no idea how to configure that. In the end I only managed put the meebo bar at the bottom of my site.

Currently rushing for the studio submission due next Monday. I have nothing much to say about my thesis at the moment. But here is what I'm working on for this sem, and the next sem as well:
My site is the green patch in the middle. Can you figure out where this place is?

And also...Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 is finally out. I'm gonna catch that right after my submission.
Girl always looks gorgeous in red, don't you think so?

That's about it now. I do have something else to say but I'll leave that to my next post. So, come back again. =)

End of Semester

IT looks like I only blog once every semester. Yes, the sem has finally come to the end! I've just submitted my studio work and the topical study report which took me two semester to complete.

Hard cover bound report. Satisfaction! =)

Basically for this topical study report we had to study and to do a research on a topic we picked related to our course. Well for me, this is the topic that I chose:

It is something like a thesis report. As for this I'm already suffer enough cuz I don't like to write reports. How la I'm gonna survive my thesis year next sem.

One copy for the lecturer and the other for my supervisor, Dr Zin

Nevertheless, I'm glad its all over!

Then we have our studio work. This semester we are in the urban unit therefore it covers a larger scale and context compare to the previous ones. My given site is in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands (where we visited there early of the semester to do our site analysis) and for the final project I'm doing a market place at the particular site.

Architectural Houses and Korean Dinner

DURING the Raya break I was back at KL with Ning. One day we've decided to tour around some area where I seldom been, some area that has beautiful houses. Ya know, those houses that goes BOOM and shout 'ME'!

Talking about nice houses, I will usually think of Damansara Height, Bukit Damansara or the Bangsar area. These areas have a higher number of bungalows and nice mansions. I suppose many Datuks or angmohs are staying around there.

So off we go!!!

Referring map for location

I came from the road Jalan Istana towards Jalan Damansara, passing by the Istana Negara, National Museum and Galleria Sri Perdana (residence of Tun Mahathir from year 1983-1999). There you'll find interesting houses and surprisingly the area is kinda secluded and there are many trees along that hilly area.

This is Idamansara at Damansara Heights

 A Castle-like house

I call this the louver house =)

Then we have one that looks like a...ship?

Coming out from Damansara Heights to the Pusat Bandar Damansara (PBD), we then continued to Bukit Damansara at the other side of PBD. It is another hilly area where they are many houses built along the steep, contour area.

 Such as this one

This cantilevered house can be seen from Jalan Beringin

The National Science Centre which is also located nearby at Mont Kiara

There is one particular highlight for our jalan-jalan cari rumah - the YTL Residence. Previously I was searching for this HUGE mansion owned and resided by the three generation of Tan Sri Dato' Seri Yeoh Tiong Lay and luckily I found it. This time I wanted to brought Ning to see the house.

There is a security at the entrance

I didn't take much of its photo fearing that the guard will come and stop us. The only photos of the inside  I could get is from the internet. Amazing house you can find in Malaysia huh. It is just unbelievable!

(Source) Look at the scale between the snake-like house and its neighbouring mansions

Later on, we headed to Mont Kiara since we were nearby the area. I saw an APT hair saloon and decided to had my haircut there. RM25 for cut and wash by junior stylist. And I pretty much like it!

lalala~

 Hello, it's me. BOOM!

After the haircut, I brought Ning to Plaza Mont Kiara for a Korean meal. That was actual the plan for bringing her out for a dinner. However to my dissapointment the restaurant where I planned to bring her was under renovation (or closed down I don't know) so we changed to another location in Desa Sri Hartamas.

Sura - One of the restaurant the hairdresser recommended me earlier

Ooo..use charcoal one

 Hungry Ning

 Starving me

There was only us and another table of people in the restaurant. My guess it because it was a weekday, hence the less customer. Anyway, we ordered one set of beef and another set of pork as recommended by the waiter. So here goes:

As usual, Korean meal comes with lots of side dishes

 Steamed egg

BBQ beef

Roll-up the beef filled lettuce with some sause

We couldn't finished the side dishes as it was already close to full

Fruits and dessert are served after the meal

Last Day of Internship in KCYS

WHILE I was packing and tidying up my stuff in the office, boss KC came to me and asked if I can read Chinese. I told him yea and he took out a Chinese book and passed it to me. Boss said it was a little something for me.

I looked at the title and it says 创意是训练出来的 (creativity through training). I flipped through some pages and found out that the vocabs are not too difficult for me to read and understand. I guess I will spend some time reading the book. Afterall, the boss is too nice already. Well who knows, I might find something interesting inside.

Now that I have finished my practical training and don't have to worry getting up early in the morning, what is the next plan??

Internship in KL

HELLO people! It's been a week I started my practical training. The firm that I am working is located at the IOI Business Park, Puchong, I am working in an architecture firm called KCYS Architects. There are around 20 people in the office including three bosses: KC, CY and YS. Thus, KCYS. =)

The office entrance
Every morning I am traveling to work by taking the MRR2 (Middle Ring Road 2) which is always congested on the other side, luckily, and the Bandar Kinrara way to get to Puchong. The journey takes around 40 minutes drive. Red.fm is the channel keeps me entertain along the way.
Smooth drive along the highway at my area
Slow moving traffic near Bandar Tun Razak

Passing by Astro building in Serdang
Surprisingly, in the firm that I am working, there are quite a number of staff who are ex-UTM students. Few of them still remember long serving lecturers like Apai (PM Jaafar) and Ar Hong.

During lunch break, I'll follow my colleagues for a meal at the nearby area. Puchong has A LOT of things to eat I tell you. I wonder if I am able to try all the places to eat before I left the firm in two months' time.

As I am the only trainee in the firm, I was asked to handle simple project and some minor tasks. The other day, boss KC asked me to go to the local authority office in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam to have the drawings checked. All the plans and drawings have to be checked then approved by the town planner before proceed to further steps.

Here are some of my course mates internship experience: Hui San, Jenny, Jean and Anis.

As for me, I prefer going outdoor than staying inside the office, looking at monitor screen of AutoCad and Sketchup. Right now, I am working on a banquet hall design in Kajang, with assist from a staff, who happens to be a UTM graduate in 2004.

Hope it'll be a good internship experience in these 2 months' time!
