City Square Case Study

[This is a scheduled post]

IF you see this post, means I still can't get any place to online in China. I wrote and saved this as a draft few months back cuz I was lazy to upload the photos at that time. Anyhow I still feel like posting it up. So here it is - My Building Services II group assignment =)

I know, this is a reaal back-dated post!

YEAH.. Assessment is over! Portfolio is over! No more studio lesson! Two exams are over! Left one more paper to go on the 29th! However there is still one more assignment yet to submit, which is the building services II.

This assignment was given like months ago and it is supposed to be submitted Friday but we asked the lecturer to extend the due date. And he agreed us to submit on the coming Monday. So on yesterday, always being the late minute students, my group and some others went to look for a building to study for this assignment.

First we went to the M-Suites Hotel nearby Danga Bay, hoping we would get it started right away. Unfortunately the management staff couldn't approve our request as they were quite busy on that day. They said that they would call and inform us again in a few weeks' time. We didn't have much time for that.

Then we went around to look for another building and we came to Puteri Pacific Hotel. They told us the same thing. So we've made a decision not to choose hotels anymore. Tiong drove us around and finally we decided to head to City Square. After the study (if we did) maybe we could go for a movie or stuff like that. Hehe.

We went up to the management office on the 18th floor asked for the permission to do our study. The receptionist told us that the person-in-charge was not around but she said that we could contact her some time later. Well, at least there was a slight hope.

It is divided into three zones

While waiting for the management staff, we went to Starbucks for a drink. Tiong slept straight away at there.

A while later I called the staff again and she finally said that we could carry on with what we wanted to do WITH CONDITIONS that we do not enter the services rooms. Duh, that's the main purpose we went there and she told us that we couldn't access to those area?!!

Nevermind. We continued exploring the building on our own, snapping photos without permission, and sneaking to unauthorized area. Jean did some act at the fire escape staircase.
"I'm alive...!"

When there is fire, you jump down like that

I must say the roof top was the best place we ever went. There was a window cleaning hanger like the one we always see in the movie which able to move on a designated track along the building perimeter. Suddenly I felt like I'm in the movie Infernal Affairs (无间道).
The roof level plan
We are going up up up

"Oops, someone is there"

At the same time there was a worker cleaning the water tank so we got the chance to ask him some few questions and we also took the chance to climb up the water tank. It was quite a fun experience.
The tank is 4meter high

We were curious about..
What's inside???
This is where all the water stored
Clockwise from right: Ning, Tiong, Beeli the hole.
There was actually another floor higher than roof top level but we couldn't go up there as the access was locked. Wasted.

After exploring the top, we moved down to the basement level trying to locate the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and the garbage disposal area. Walking around and finding those areas in the three storey basement carpark wasn't easy. There was no air-con and everywhere looked almost the same to us.
The carpark, obviously
I have never see this thing for a long already
It is a carlift

Some random photos of the day:

Gosh, Tiong is long
I'm lost

While we were at the roof top wandering around the mechanical rooms and the fire staircase access we saw something which was not suppose to be there!! Jeng Jeng....

I'll be RM50 Richer

JUST checked my Nuffnang account. My advertisement earning has finally reached RM50!!!! Yeah!! RM50.80 to be exact. I registered Nuffnang since Christmas in 2008 2007 and ever since the advertisement thingy has been in my blog for 6 months (sometimes it does get disappear though). And when the earning has reached RM50, we can choose to cash out the money but I think I'll just keep it accumulate first. Wait till a lot only I will withdraw. Muahaha. Like that only feeling syok ma! XD

My nuffnang

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Left four more days before heading back to JB. Aarrgh! all the nightmares will then begin. Measured drawing assignments!! I have never done anything since I came back from Negeri Sembilan. Except there was a few times that I opened the sketchup, edited the window conponents abit, orbit around the house, saved and closed the whole thing. That’s all for the measured drawing.

Most of the time, I will play Mahjong Titans and lately I started playing Chess Titans. I don’t play it the last cuz I don't really know how to play and I always have this fear that I’ll sure lose and the King will kena makan. But it’s not bad after all. Cuz there is always an ‘undo’ button. =p

Checkmate! Haha I'm white

However, there are some things that I am looking forward to when return to uni. I’ll get back to see my lovely course mates *wink*, moved to new hostel up the hill, staying and happing in the studio, drive around JB and Skudai, eating Choon Wah’s cookies, and going to Singapore! The motorshow will be in held September. Can't wait wow!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
This few days I was busying with my car. Dad says that there is no need to spray the car since it is not worth it for an old car. Might as well save up the a few hundred to a thousand bucks and spend it on other beneficial stuff.

So I ended up spraying the car myself. Yea, DIY style. Of course I’m not gonna spray the WHOLE car. I'll die of toxic! Only a few patches that needed to be cover up.
Before
As I am not the very artistic and patient guy in painting and colouring thing, as a result I erm…I give it a pass (by closing one eye). Aiyo, anything la. As long the patches are not there anymore =p

After, at the same spot
Some are just nice
But some part looks like cheap plaster
Up here also got
Hehe. But I am satisfy. Period.
I also polished the car. See how reflective it is *proud*

*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Tomorrow I will be heading to Puchong for a steamboat dinner with my friends at Shabu shabu. I can’t wait for that! Looking at the reviews from the internet, the place looks wonderful and the food tastes yummy. Tomorrow I shall puasa for half a day so that I’ll eat more during the steamboat. It’s RM25 per person for an all-you-can-eat meal.

There are other things that I wana eat before I go back. Few days back I saw an McD breakfast advertisement on the TV and suddenly feel like eating it. Also, the Starbucks breakfast meal. For only RM4.50 per set, it looks quite worth it for me! So right now what I’m going to do is to sleep early so that I will able to wake up early for the breakfast next day.
Free a cup of coffee
See ya guys again =)

Not Happy New Year

HELLO. I am back to my university. Arrived here on Sunday noon with my roommate, Choon Wah. Most of our course mates were already coming back on that day. To my suprise our room now has a grill installed on the window. That means we don't have to worry opening the windows when sleeping at night as we are staying at the ground floor.

We cleaned and wiped our room which was kept empty for a whole month. And collect back our stuff that we stored in CK’s room during the holiday. And I found out that my electric kettle has gone. Don’t know fly where liao.
All geared up

CK and David cleaning their room
Clean at last
Anyway, yesterday was the first day of studio class and it was already giving us a BIG headache. First day of uni itself got already got project to do. Our lecturer, Ar. Hong required us to take part in an architecture competition for our first project (out of three). And the dateline is in 2-3 weeks time.

The contest was given out on last November but we only got to start it yesterday. Two months time shorten become two weeks. This is really crazy lah.

As it is a group project so I am in the same group with Tiong, ACY and Han Chee. We were given to choose between two competitions: a community center in Leisure Farm, Johor and a medical clinic/institute in Nepal.

During the briefing
The formal one looks quite easy as the site is located quite near to our place and so we chose that for our projects. But it isn’t that easy as it sounds actually. We had a trouble finding ideas and concept for our design.

So yesterday after the competition briefing, Tiong, ACY and I went to Jusco’s Starbucks to look for information online as we had to propose some ideas later at night. Ar. Hong said that he want to have a brainstorm session on that night.
Tiong and I

So on the night of New Year eve we stayed in the studio listening to our lecturer talked so deeply until all of us starting to crack our brains. The project wants ‘green’ in the design but he said that green doesn’t mean just trees and nature but something else. He said that we must use passion and all our heart to think. I am still figuring what kind of ‘green’ he really want.

Well, although this first project is already given us enough pressure but I think he’s quite a good lecturer. He knows many things and talks a lot. He can talk non-stop from current issues to business and all the way to cow dunk and etc. And he laughs in such a cute way too. Hehe.

After the session we went for dinner at about 10pm and back to our hostel before 12am or else will kena saman by the uni!!

So that’s how I celebrate my New Year eve. No countdown, no parties, no fireworks. Cham.

Genting Day Trip

ON Monday night, Jason suggested a last minute Genting trip since he has a two days leave off his work. Planned to meet at my house at 11am on Tuesday morning. But according to MBSian tradition, an additional of 1 hour will have to add to the suggested time, which turned out to 12pm.

After having our lunch at Quan's cafe Pandan Indah, we left for Genting at 2pm. Jason and Siew Ki are going up by their car while the rest of us (Randy, Yee Mei, Perry and I) took a cab up. It cost RM52. Quite convenient and a fast way to reach up the hilltop.
On the way up

We reached Genting Highlands at 3pm. The cab dropped us at the First World Hotel and we met up with Jason there. The people inside the First World Plaza were damn lot! It is Christmans season and also holiday season in both Malaysia and Singapore.

First we went into the Casino @ First World Hotel. We didn't put any bet but just walked around and see how the people played inside. There was this machine which made us all wonder how it should be played. People just pressed the button and waiting for 'something' to happen. If not mistaken it is the Jackpot.
Most of the games there are handled electronically. And the number of CCTV inside the casino is enough to fill the whole ceiling ady.
We went out to the First World Plaza. The queue for all the rides were full of people and remarkably long. There was no way we could wana play any rides at that time. At first we planned to play the Adult bumper car but it was later put off after looking at the terrible queue. And the so called 'Adult' bumper car are mainly children.
So what happened to the Junior bumber car? For babies only?
Then we headed to the Snow World but the ticket was selling the 6.30pm session. A little bit too late since we are planning to leave Genting on that day itself.
So in the end we just walked around the place and enjoy the cool breeze outside. Also making fun of the people screaming on the Flying coaster ride. Hehe.

Perry. It was his 1st time to Genting since 3 year old
Quite foggy during the month of December
After a long walk we wanted to find to place to sit and have drinks so Jason suggested Coffee Bean at the Resorts hotel. When we reached there, there weren't any nice seats available outside and the view was not very nice so we headed back to First World hotel for Starbucks coffee.

What was Jason doing?

All of us

We saw this front desk with nobody and so went to fool around with it.

At night, we went to Taman Yulek for steamboat dinner at the Restoran Choong Huat. They have the normal plain soup, Tom Yam and also herbal soup, which I never tried before. Apart from the steamboat dishes, we ordered grill fish and BBQ chicken wing for side dishes.

We ate till very very full until we couldn't finish the vegetables and the mee hoon. But it was quite enjoying and feeling good to meet again, talking back our memories, crapping all the way and we really had a nice day.

Like what Yee Mei said: "It's not the journey that matters, but the...." Ermm, I can't really hear what she said after that. =p

So, when is the next trip?

**Correction: "It's not the destination that matters, but the journey." Hehe
